WD Renewal Event: Thrive Where You are Planted PDF Print E-mail

 We live in a part of the country where 63% of people list religious preference as “None.”  This has led to some folks in church development calling the Pacific Northwest the “None Zone.”  But there is opportunity as well as challenge in this reality.

Patricia Killen, a professor of religion at Pacific Lutheran University and co-author of Religion and Public Life in the Pacific Northwest: The None Zone, will be the keynote speaker at "Thrive Where You are Planted: Revitalizing Ministry in the None Zone" to be held at the McMinnville Cooperative Ministry March 19-21, 2010.  The conference will focus on the keys to revitalization: worship, small groups, and mission/service — all formed in the specific context of each congregation’s community and people.

Western District Responds to Need in Haiti PDF Print E-mail

The first thing that United Methodists in the Western District did upon hearing of the devastating earthquake in Haiti was to pray.

The second thing they did was start to give. First UMC in Salem, the largest congregation in our district, had collected over $6,500 within two weeks after the earthquake. West Salem, one of the smallest congregations in our district, had 25 persons in worship the Sunday following the earthquake and collected over $300 for the need at that time.
