COR Leadership Institute Comes to Oregon-Idaho PDF Print E-mail

Adam HamiltonIn the fall of 2008, the Rev. Dan Wilson-Fey traveled to Kansas City to hear Adam Hamilton (pictured right), senior pastor of United Methodism’s Church of the Resurrection, at that church’s annual Leadership Institute. Dan was so impressed by what he learned about creating healthy, vital congregations that he returned the following year, this time with 10 church leaders from Forest Grove UMC. Each one paid a $139 registration fee, plus travel and hotel expenses, because they were so committed to learning concrete tools to put to use in their local congregation. Imagine if you could get these same tools right here at home.

The Oregon-Idaho Annual Conference is refocusing its mission and vision. There is a new emphasis equipping and empowering local churches and their leaders. Healthy, vital churches are key to making disciples. The annual session in June will reflect this commitment by providing a significant opportunity for leadership development of both clergy and laity.

Leadership Institute@Annual Conference - More Details PDF Print E-mail

For the past 12 years, The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection’s annual Leadership Institute has been equipping, inspiring and encouraging clergy and other local church leaders with practical ideas and leadership insights. Now the Leadership Institute is coming to Oregon-Idaho.

The Rev. Adam Hamilton, senior pastor at Church of the Resurrection, will travel to Salem to present a one-day Leadership Institute specially tailored to address the changes occurring in Oregon-Idaho. The event will take place during the annual conference session at the Salem Conference Center, on Friday, June 11, 2010. Thanks to a grant from Abingdon Press, the Institute is free to members of the Annual Conference. Other church leaders are encouraged to attend at a cost of only $25 for the day.

Each of the three 80-minute sessions is drawn from the best of Resurrection’s Leadership Institutes and will include tools to help pastors and lay members set action steps and measurable goals related to the material from these presentations.

Session One (8:15 am)

* the role of a leader;
* how leadership and management differ;
* the personal characteristics of leaders people follow;
* the practices of effective leaders;
* the importance of leading change;
* what excellent customer service looks like; and
* an introduction to strategic planning.

Session Two (10:30 am)
Ideas for Preaching and Worship covering:

* the characteristics of effective preaching;
* how to prepare sermons that connect;

Included in this session is an inspirational conclusion on The Future and Promise of Methodism. In it Adam will make the case for Methodism in the 21st century.

Congregations are encouraged to bring teams to the Institute for maximum impact back at home. Online registration will be available at the end of March.
